Beyond the Bucknell Bubble: Personal Finances in the Real World – Saturday, February 1st 8:15am-4:30pm ACWS First Floor – breakfast & lunch included for ALL BUCKNELL SENIORS!
“Do you know how to check, interpret, and build your credit score?”  “Will you leave Bucknell with student loan debt?” “Did your job offer come with a 401(k) plan?” Join the professors in Accounting & Financial Management and get answers to these questions and more in the “Personal Finances in the Real World” Seminar. Located on the First Floor of Academic West. This event is open to all majors. Sign up HERE.

Registration will begin at 8:30am – presentations by ACFM faculty begin at 9:00am and run through 4:15pm with a break for lunch. All sessions will be held throughout the first floor of ACWS and breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Freeman Alumna Hillary Marotta, author, at campus bookstore Sat Feb 1 from 12-2pm.
Freeman College of Management graduate Hillary Marotta will be signing copies of her new book “Head and Heart: How to Run a Smart and Compassionate Nonprofit” here at the campus bookstore on Saturday, February 1st from 12pm to 2pm.  This is a great opportunity for current students to meet an alum and see how her degree has helped in her professional career.  

Feb 3rd, Industry Spotlight: Real Estate, Construction, Sustainability and Community Revitalization
Join the Center for Career Development for an event on February 3rd spotlighting different careers within Real Estate including the areas of: Construction, Sustainability and Community Revitalization. Several Bucknell Alumni will return to campus to help highlight the depth and breadth of careers and you’ll have the opportunity to see how majors and course of study can lead to a variety of paths. Check the Bridge to see the full schedule of events and to RSVP where necessary.

Do you have a summer internship lined up? If not, consider the Bucknell in Dublin – Summer Internship Program (June 6-Aug 1). 
This 8-week summer program provides:

  • a guaranteed 8 week internship with an Irish company providing global work experience which catches the eyes of recruiters and provides interesting talking points during future job interviews;
  • 2.0 Bucknell course credits that satisfy the global connections and arts & humanities CCC requirements and transfer back a grade (non-Bucknell summer courses transfer back as .75 credit and do not count towards your GPA); 
  • Single room apartment style housing on University College Dublin’s campus;
  • Numerous events/excursions throughout the 8 week period

NEW – Sustainable ‘Shark Tank’
The Bucknell Green Fund is offering an innovative opportunity for students to get involved in the creative designing process of developing environmentally sustainable projects for our campus. “Green Tank”, a two-part event, will be an excellent experience and resume builder. Link to sign-up: 

WORKSHOP DAY (Sun. Feb 16th @ 1pm) – On Sunday February 16th, students arrive at 1pm to participate in a guided brainstorming session around waste, energy usage, and other sustainability issues the Green Fund could help solve. Students form teams around potential project ideas that emerge from the discussion. They then have the opportunity to work teams to create feasible concept proposals for the Green Fund to consider.

PRESENTATION NIGHT (Wed. Feb 19th @ 5pm) – On Wednesday February 19th, participants will present their concept proposals to the Bucknell community at a competition-style event. Teams present their proposals and a panel consisting of Green Fund Committee Chair, a Senior Student, and Bucknell Alum will vote. We are awarding $2000 in cash prizes and providing up to $400,000 in project funding! Students will have the opportunity to work directly with the Campus Energy Manager in developing and implementing the winning concept proposals.

Innovate Event – Social Impact at Scale Featuring Kathy Vizas ’79, Dan Berelowitz & Devin Hibbard on April 22, 2020, 6 P.M. 
Bucknellian, attorney, and advocate Kathy Vizas ’79 will be joined by Dan Berelowitz, CEO and Founder of Spring Impact, and Devin Hibbard, CEO and Founder of Street Business School, for a discussion on social entrepreneurship, global leadership and commercial franchising principles they’ve successfully applied to the social sector. PwC’s Explore program is a one day program focused on helping participants identify and analyze their strengths, values and passions to better understand who they are and what they want to do. Participants will leave with a stronger sense of who they are, who PwC is and what future opportunities might exist for them in professional services. Applications to the Program for Undergraduate Research (PUR) are Due February 4th.
Applications to PUR to pursue research, scholarship or creative endeavors in the summer 2020 under the guidance of faculty mentors are DUE FEBRUARY 4th. Awards are determined on a competitive basis by faculty selection committees. Successful applicants are awarded $400 per week, in the form of three stipend payments over the summer, in addition to on-campus housing.  Detailed information and application are available at Students are advised to identify and consult their faculty mentors as soon as possible.

To help students craft well written proposals, the Career Advancement Center is offering a PUR application writing session on Tues Jan 21, 5-6 pm, ELC 217. NYC, Boston & Philadelphia FAO Schwarz Fellowships – paid! Deadline to apply is Feb 15th!
Each year FAO Schwarz offers six PAID two year fellowships at high-impact nonprofit organizations in NYC, Boston and Philadelphia to recent grads who have the potential to become future social impact leaders. Summer research opportunity – Digital Scholarship Summer Research Fellows
The Digital Scholarship Summer Research Fellows program is an 8-week, paid ($3200 stipend) summer research opportunity in which students learn digital scholarship tools and methods, and apply those to a research project of their own choosing. The students meet both as a small cohort (typically we have 4 students) and also have plenty of independent work time. There is no expectation of previous experience with digital scholarship or doing independent research, and we welcome students from all majors to apply to this program.
